Spelling errors, poor writing, changing tenses in one sentence , glaringly obvious plot twists-all add up to a painful experience. That said, I kept reading and muddled through to the end. With some expert editing this could have been a good book. The Witch Hunter The Witch Hunter Saga Volume 1 Nicole R Taylor 9781482061697 Books Reviews
Grammar was horrific. Some sentences were written so badly that it was hard to understand what the author was trying to say. When I read "had of" when it should have been "would have", I had to quit.
I know allows self published authors to sell their ebooks, but really, when books like this come out under the name it discredits their brand. They should have an inhouse editor to review books for structure and grammar.
If an author does nothing else well, correct spelling errors and punctuation issues. This book would not rate above a C in an English class. As other reviewers had mentioned, the plot jumps around, and does not flow. Did anyone else notice the witch hunter shows up as a male in the woods, then again as a female awoken later? This author has potential, but the writing is pretty bad. A very improbable protagonist, that impulsively does whatever, and it all works out. Characterization could have been better developed, the flow is not there. I only finished the book because I started it and was curious, but the grammar mistakes alone had me contemplate leaving the story unfinished at least 4 times. Please know the difference between lose and loose, for crying out loud. Get a publisher that checks and corrects your spelling errors. That is not the book's greatest flaw, but it is the most glaringly obvious, and easiest to correct.
Don't read this. Just because it is about vampires and werewolves and witches, does not make it a worthy read.
Really? I was surprised at all the great reviews. Maybe it's because you have never read or watched the Vampire Diaries series. The parallels between that show and this book are hilarious.
For anyone who has seen and loves the Vampire Diaries series of books and the CW TV show, this book is not worth the download space. There's a reason, as of December 2013, that it is free. I'm surprised that the author is not being pursued for copyright infringement, because the parallels between the book and The Vampire Diaries series are ASTRONIMICAL.
Example One Vampire Diaries = Civil War era brothers, Damon and Stefan Salvator, are both turned about the same time. The older one, Damon, is meaner and more cunning than the soft hearted, Stefan, who only drinks from the blood of animals. One brother is slight of build and wiry while the other is stronger and more compact. Both brothers, but especially, Damon are heavy alcohol drinkers because it helps with blood urges and heats their bodies to a more normal temperature. In the Witch Hunter book, Civil War era brothers, Zac and Sam, are turned about the same time. Zac, the older of the two, is mean and more cunning with a penchant for trouble while Sam is soft hearted and only drinks the blood of animals. Zac is tall and wiry while Sam is shorter and more compact. Both brothers are extremely loyal and love deeply when they choose to and they are heavy alcohol drinkers cuz it helps the urges.
Example Two Vampire Diaries Damon and Stefan both fall in love with the same girl. After the girl is accidently turned, she chooses one but is in love with the other at the same time. This one's name is Elena. Witch Hunter = Zac and Sam love the same girl who is turned into a vampire. Her name is Liz, which we all know is short for Elizabeth. The names are similar.
Example Three Vampire Diaries Elena has a best friend named Bonnie who is a natural born witch apprenticing under her grandma. Bonnie accidently discovers she's a witch and confronts grandma, aka GRAM, who gives her a partial truth. When Gram dies, Bonnie is left to discover her talents and the truths alone. Witch Hunter = Liz's best friend is an apprentice witch whose name is Gabby. Gabby's GRAM (seriously) disappears early in her life and everyone thinks she's crazy. Gabby knows the truth about her witchiness and keeps everything to herself.
Example Four Vampire Diaries = One of the principle antagonists is Katherine. Katherine creates all kinds of havoc, especially for Damon. She's a 500 year old vampire. Witch Hunter = Katrin (also Katherine's true Ukrainian name) is a 2000 year old dead witch who creates problems for Damon's paralell, Zac. Not surprisingly, because Vampire Diaries has a family of them, Katrin is the original witch who created the original vampires.
These are just a few examples. The book has good language and cohesive flow, but there are quite a few grammatical mistakes. The kind of mistakes that an automated spell checker would miss, like "rouge" instead of the correct, "rogue." I admit, as of today, I have only read a couple chapters, but I am not sure I will read the rest. The similarities are too ridiculous for me.
This story is about two brothers who live in a small town down south, inhabited by supernatural creatures. Such as vampires, witches, ghosts, and werewolves. If you ask me this plot line has been tried before, vampire diaries hello!
I mean you got Zach the older brother with a smart mouth and alcoholic tendencies, Sam the younger brother with a gentle heart and soul. Gabby, the neighborhood young witch still discovering her powers. Liz the newlywed vampire both brothers want, and Alex the useless human.
The only original character I found was Aya, who was a breath of fresh air. A strong female lead who kicks butt verbally and physically is always a plus tiny favor. However the likeness of the five other main characters is too much to ignore. For the first 5 chapters I felt as if I were reading a vampire diary spoof or something. Even Zac's coloring, dark hair green eyes, is like a rip off of Damon Salvatore.
I don't know if this was deliberate or a huge coincidence but I was slightly amused and highly irritated by this work of fiction. Not to mention it was boring. Good thing it was free other wise I would have been mad if I had bought this.
The cover art for this book is amazing. Unfortunately it is downhill and fast after that. My only hope is that I didn't spend any money on this book. I could barely make it 25% of the way through it. Formatting, grammar, editing, plot, pace, character development were all severely lacking. It is unfortunate.
Spelling errors, poor writing, changing tenses in one sentence , glaringly obvious plot twists-all add up to a painful experience. That said, I kept reading and muddled through to the end. With some expert editing this could have been a good book. Please, writers, get some advice from someone who knows how to shape a poorly written story into something satisfying.
